How to Install a Vinyl Privacy Fence

The gate posts for vinyl privacy fences are just a hollow vinyl post. You have to add an aluminum I Beam to the center of it to help reinforce its form and structure. The post holes need to be dug down to 30″. Once you get the post holes dug,put some concrete in the holes. Then insert the post. Level up the post and add more concrete until you are just about 3″ below the ground. Use a bar to poke at the concrete as you insert it into the hole to help make sure it’s getting in there really good and even. The posts will ideally have time to set in the concrete for 24 hours before hanging anything on them like gates.

When installing the regular part of the fence, start at the high point of the yard. It makes it much easier to go downhill with the fence installation rather than uphill. The posts for the fence will be different than the posts for the gate. You’ll put a piece of pressure treated wood in the bottom of the fence post to provide it some extra reinforcement. But,the pressure treated wood should not interfere with the holes in the post where the fence panels will be mounted. When placing your post into the hole in the ground,be sure the bottom hole in the post remains above grade before adding the concrete to the hole. Add about a foot of concrete into the hole and then finish it off with the dirt you originally pulled out to make the hole.

Once you install your first post, you can run a string line along the entire length of where the rest of the fence will be installed. Then, dig all of the holes you need for the privacy fence installation. Prep everything for installing the posts quickly. Once the first post is installed, you are ready to put in a fence panel.

Insert the panel ends into the fence post holes. Then, put in a screw at the top and the bottom of each panel to hold it securely to the post. Once you put in the first panel, you are immediately ready to install the next post. Bring the post over and insert it into the hole and insert the other end of the fence panel into the post holes simultaneously. Check your post height in preparation of the next panel. Make sure it’s all level. Then add the concrete to the hole to secure the post.

Simply repeat this process until all the panels and fence posts have been installed.

Some things to consider about your vinyl fence are that some people will say that they are flimsy. But,not all vinyl fence material is created equal. High quality vinyl fences will incorporate aluminum I Beams to prevent the panels and frames from sagging and bowing. And,high quality vinyl fences will also use pressure treated 6 x 6″ wood in the bottom of each fence post. The really nice thing about a vinyl privacy fence is that you will not have to paint it. They should last for a very long time. A saying in the industry is ‘vinyl is final’.
